The Archives are in their new home! I just moved, so there may have been some downtime (esp. since Roadrunner out here doesn't seem to be as reliable under the Code Red assault). To make up for it, there have been a lot more updates this week. Case in point:
The following jigs have been added:The Atholl Highlanders, The Banks of Lough Gowna, The Boys of Coomanore, Bumper Squire Jones, The Burnt Old Man, Christy Barry's Jig, The Cliffs of Moher, Comb Your Hair and Curl It, The Connaughtman's Rambles, Contentment is Wealth, The King's Jig, The Lilting Fisherman, The Mooncoin Jig, Orange in Bloom, Over the Hills to Runbush, The Rock and the Wee Pickle Tow, The Rocky Road to Dublin (our 300th song!), Scatter the Mud (#1 and #2), Tom Ward's Jig, and The Top of Cork Road.
The following Polkas have been added: Babes in the Woods, The Finnish Polka, The High Caul Cap, John Kelly's Polka, The Knockabout, Lakes of Sligo, and O'Sullivan's Polka.
The following slip jigs have been added: The Butterfly, The Cock and the Hen, A Fig for a Kiss, Give Me a Drink of Water, and The Tipperary Hills
That's like 33 songs! But wait, there's more! I have re-transcribed the following tunes: Rolling in the Ryegrass, The Sailor's Delight, The Skye Boat Song, The Spanish Lady, The Tenpenny Bit, Tarmon's Polka, Tralee Gaol, The Trip to Tunbridge, Wallflowers, and Waxies Dargle! The only song left in the old format is The Parting Glass..my sheet music for it is packed somehwere, but as soon as I find it, I'll transcribe it anew and all songs will be in the new format!

New songs for your viewing pleasure! The South Wind, Paddy Doyle, The Dingle Regatta, and Kieley's Slide. Also, added a new category (Welsh) for the following 4 tunes: Hela 'R Sgyfarnog, Lady Owen's Delight, The Swansea Hornpipe, and Y Gelynen. 8 tunes for your whistling pleasure!
You may have noticed that I've added some special notes on some pieces of sheet music now (check out the Nutting Girl, for instance). Whenever a song is in a non-standard key, you'll be given some handy tips about it. Experienced players won't need these tips, but I hope they prove to be of great service to the beginner. I'll probably be adding more of these kinds of notes as I think about them.

Lots of What's New updates this month…I must be getting into the swing of this daddy thing.
A short notice: Someone uploaded a couple of my files to Mike Simpson's Sessioneer website. Mike has a great website with a good number of tunes. I urge you to check it out. Now to my complaint...
While I think Mike is a great guy, and I believe in the proliferation of music, Mike's terms of use specifically grant him all rights, including right of sale, to anyting uploaded to the site. My copyright license to you guys specifically reserves all rights except the right of commercial redistribution. I figure, as long as you're not making money off my work, you're free to distribute it, but I reserve the right to charge anyone a licensing fee if they're want the right to sell my work. It seems like a fair trade off. Therefore, the copyright terms between Mike's site and my site are INCOMPATIBLE. In addition, not only did this person not have the authority to grant the rights that they attempted to grant by posting my files, whoever uploaded my files did not give me proper credit (a requirement in my license notice). You know who you are…shame on you! If you want to upload tunes to Mike's site, please transcribe them yourself, rather than just uploading stuff you pulled from my site. Any file of a traditional tune you transcribe yourself will be copyrighted by you, and you can do what you want with it.
Just so we're clear, though, I wanted to say I think Mike's site is great..we just have incompatible copyright rules for our users.
Ok, enough complaining. Back to the music! Expect a ton more tunes Friday!

On Jan 18th, the website will move to it's new home.. We may experience some downtime.
I must be getting anxious about it..because I've done a whole lot of work on the site. I separated out Jigs and Reels, because now (unlike when I first started my website years ago) I know the difference. I've also added a whole bunch of new Reels: The Drunken Landlady, The Earl's Chair, G Mixolydian Reel, The Glen Road to Carrick, Maud Miller, McSweeny's Reel, and The Sailor's Return.
Also, retranscribed a bunch of tunes: Nora Criona, Ode to Joy, Off She Goes, The Old Grey Cat, Paddy Whack, Planxty Hewlett, The Quaker's Wife. Lastly, I added the much awaited links section (yeah, I know y'all have been dying for it..hehe).
There's about 15 more songs to retranscribe, and then everything will be in the new format. I'm surprised at how often I made blatant errors when I was doing the old tunes. Songs I marked as 2/4 that were obviously 4/4 time, songs missing barlines in places, etc. Of course, way back then, I was still having to struggle when reading sheet music, so I'm only slightly embarrassed!

Added 5 more tunes: Bryan O'Lynn, Dan O'Keefe's Slide (an infectious favorite!), English Country Garden, More of Cloyne, Morris March, and The Tide Come In.
Also re-transcribed: The Fairy Dance (Quick Scotch), Hey Diddle Dis, The Humors of Whiskey, Kookaburra, and Merrily we Roll Along.
Expect more songs next week..guaranteed!

Ready for more jigs? We have Con Cassidy's Jig, Donnybrook Fair, Humors of Ballingay, Kid on the Mountain !
How about children's tunes, such as: Here We Go Gathering Nuts in May(The Wren Song), Frere Jacques, and Camptown Races!
And how 'bout a bunch of re-transcriptions? I've redone the sheet music for these songs (all of them had been done under old software and wasn't up to my newer standards): The Four Marys, The Bonny Bonny Broom, Be Thou My Vision, Blow the Man Down, The Boatman, Bonaparte's Grand March, Bonny Kate, I Buried my Wife and Danced on her Grave, Drowsy Maggie, Drummond Castle, What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor, and Duffy the Dancer. This represents every piece of old sheet music with filenames up through the letter D. More transcriptsion soon! All of these have fresh, new MIDI files as well, since quite often my old MIDI software would make errors (playing a note during a rest, unable to handle ties, etc).
I think I'm off to a good start this month!

My webserver got the CodeRed worm. How? Good question…since it's supposed to infect through IIS's Indexing Service, which I've always had turned off on the server. (shrug) All patched up now, though!
