What's New

My son has been born! Donovan was born on October 23, 2000! Read more and see pictures of this wonderful event in the picture gallery!
For those of you more interested in the music than my private life, here's what this means to you: It may be a week or two before I can start getting steady updates online again. I've had a newborn and been through this routine before, but my wife hasn't, so I'm doing more than my fair share of the baby watching to let her get her rest and try to make it as easy as possible for her until she gets into the swing of things. Just keep an eye on the What's New page, and you'll see when new songs get put online. I'm going to put song re-notation on hiatus for a few weeks until I get more time and more regular sleep.
Fortunately, I did manage to record some music Sunday after last week's update. So, for your listening pleasure, we have Drowsie Maggie, I Buried My Wife and Danced On Her Grave, The Old Grey Cat, and When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again on MP3.

Well, the doc's guess was off, and my son isn't here yet (though we did have the honor of 12 hours of false labor..whee!). Due to sleepness nights anxiously awaiting the arrival of my son, I got a lot done this week! Must have been my own fatherly "nesting instinct" *grin*.
I have finished the "My Archive" interface preferences. Click on the "My Archive Preferences" button to see it in action! Four different looks for the site, for more enjoyment! Thanks to Moyra's Web Jewels for the graphics, and the standard interfacing style (which is what allows me to be able to swap them in and out).
I've joined the Tinwhistle webring! You can find the nav bar for it down at the bottom of all of my pages that have navigation links. It's small and new, but I expect it to grow, and encourage everyone with a whistle-related site to sign up. That way, anyone looking for whistle pages will have an easy time finding a lot of them if they stumble across one that's on the webring. It's run by Thom Larson of The Whistle Shop, a great guy, and the place I've been recently buying my whistles.
I've also won the Celtic Thistle webpage award. This is the first award my site's won in it's current incarnation. (I'd won quite a few on the old site). I've added the award image and link to the bottom of my main page.
While getting the digital camera ready for the birth of my son, I decided to take pictures of most of my instruments. I left out the keyboards and the didgeridoo, but the rest can be found in the Gallery.
Finally, to the music! I added these songs: For the Sakes of Old Decency, Rolling in the Barrell, Idbury Hill, The Ladies' Pleasure, Hot Punch.
Recorded MP3 files for these songs: The Duke of Perth, The Fool's Jig, Greensleeves, Haste to the Wedding, Idbury Hill, The Ladies' Pleasure.
Added lyrics to: The Arkansas Traveler, Greensleeves (What Child is This), Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Rakes of Mallow, White Cockade.

Well, according to the doctor, I'll probably be a daddy before the next update, so if that one's a little short, please accept my apologies in advance. *grin*
As for the tunes: I added the following songs: Fasten the Leg in Her, Bean Setting, Greensleeves, and White Cockade.
Also: Grouping the "hornpipes" and "morris dances" together. I'll go through the songs I have currently in "misc", and if they're a morris dance, I'll move them over to that section soon. Things on my to-do list: html anchors, so you can go straight to a letter of the alphabet (on the songs-by-name) or straight to a song type (on the songs-by-type) lists. As the lists are growing rather long, these should make navigation simpler. Also coming: cookie based preferences…kind of a "My Whistler" idea. I have a couple of graphic backgrounds and such that a couple of my friends say they prefer over the red/woodsy look. I'll attempt to put them all up soon and let you save your preference via a cookie, so that it "sticks".

Databased and VBScripted the What's New pages. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and finally got around to it. Now, updating the web page will be even easier, as I won't have to go in and mess with HTML to update the What's New…simply adding a new field to the database should update it auto-magically!

Sorry about the late update. I'm afraid that with the impending birth of my son, I've been too busy to notate much music. I can only hope that you're satisfied with a couple of songs a week or so until things settle down. I've added a missing midi file for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and added the following songs: La Russe and Sheebeg Sheemore.
On a more positive note, I have updated the gallery section with some more pics..check it out!
